Yesterday the Easter Bunny came to Covington Cottage while we were sailing with our guests on San Diego Bay. It was a great day!
The chef of Covington Cottage was up at 4:30 this morning preparing our guests’ breakfast at 5:30. It seems that Eileen had to be at work at seven. Now wanting her to leave hungry, we whipped up cornmeal waffles, fresh fruit, thick bacon and real maple syrup. Now the chef is going back to the feathers.
First we had Tiger, and now we have a duck. Last Sunday while sitting outside with guests a duck flew into the yard and landed in the pool. After floating around for a few minutes he flapped out of the pool and onto the patio. We assumed he was sick so called the Animal Control. While we were on the phone Donald flew the coop. Gawd only knows what’ll be next.
What WOOD you do if the doorbell rang and it was Tiger?
A coupla weeks aglo we had Tiger and Lindsay visiting from Texas. VERY nice folks with great back stories and bright futures. We thouroughly enjoyed their visit, and when they departed we asked our usual final question. “What is not in Covington Cottage that should be?” Well, metrosexual Tiger said, “Why a full length mirror, of course.” It was installed yesterday and will be forever known as Tiger’s Mirror. Good luck at the Masters!
Seven eleven new shooter coming out! Yesterday’s guests were dealers from Las Vegas. After an hour of interrogation and wine I walked away with what I’ve always known; there ain’t no way to beat the house! Very nice folks. In their honor this morning’s napkin rings were customized. At Covington Cottage everyone’s a winner!!!
Here at Covington Cottage we have lots of beautiful women who come for a day or two of rest. Yesterday, however, the most beautiful girl ever to check in arrived. Lily! Dressed in a cotton sundress with matching shoes and a big bright smile, she stole our hearts immediately. For an hour her adorable mother enjoyed a glass of red while David and I doted over Lily. Both girls are delightful, but we’re partial to the short one.
We were supposed to have guests last night from Rhode Island. Last night they got as far as Newark. Too much weather. All bad.
In preparation for their arrival we made cinnamon walnut rolls. We proofed them, refrigerated them, proofed them again this morning, baked and frosted them. No Lauren. No Harry. No fun. When they finally arrive we’l greet them warmly. May even give them a cinnamon roll!
Yesterday afternoon we got a last minute booking, so we had about twenty minutes to turn the cottage, say “Goodbye” to one couple and “Hello” to the next one. We did it and everyone was happy.
Today we have a late check in so the pace is a bit more leisurely. Here’s the view from my pre-dawn walk. Ahhhhh, and to think that half of our country is shoveling snow. Gotta love San Diego. We do!
The day dawned bright and had all of the makings of a fabulous day. I was reading the paper when it happened. The bar sink blew up, turning our kitchen into waterfront property. We mopped up, dried up and still got breakfast delivered to the cottage at nine o’clock.
This morning’s fare was Huevos Rancheros with bacon, refried beans, sour cream and salsa and homemade almond cinnamon buns. Good stuff.
Our Huevos Rancheros are our second most popular breakfast. Right behind our Sunday Eggs Benedict. Come stay with us. You’ll love the breakfast and our delivery “boy” David.
